The final due date for this assignment is January 18th, 2017, 11:59PM HOL time. Please send all assignments to [email protected] with the subject line "HW2 - [Your HOL ID]" for homework and "EC2 - [Your HOL ID]" for the extra credit (they MUST be sent in separately). So if I were sending mine in, they would say "HW2 - iv823" and "EC2 -iv823" in the subject line. Please also include your name, house, and HOL ID at the top of your e-mail. I need this info to give you your hard-earned points, so double check that it's there! I will NOT accept attachments - please send your entire assignment in the body of the e-mail, or else I won't grade it. If you have any questions or need help with anything, please don't hesitate to send me a HOL message (my ID is iv823) or find me on IRC. I am always happy to help! Failure to format the assignments correctly (i.e., as outlined above) will result in a warning the first time, and a 2 point penalty for all other instances!

Option 1) What's Your Take?
Choose ONE of the topics below and discuss your opinion on it! You don't have to answer all of the questions in the prompt you choose - they're mostly there to help you reach 150 words if you're stuck! (150 words minimum)
- Do you agree with all of the classifications for the spells, knowing about the hierarchy and definitions now for each category, or do you think some should be moved to a different category? Why or why not, and which spells? (You can choose to exclusively discuss Tom Riddle's "jinx" on the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor position, if you wish!)
- We didn't cover all the dark spells in existence in our lesson. Research another dark spell (or multiple) and tell me about it/them!
- Create a new jinx, hex, or curse. What is it called? What's the incantation? What category does it go under? What does it do? What does it look like/what's the wand movement? You can create multiple if you need to.
- Sectumsempra is known as one of Severus Snape's signature spells. Other witches and wizards have signature spells, too - like Harry Potter and expelliarmus, or possibly Tom Riddle and avada kedavra. If you had a signature spell, what would it be? (You can choose up to three spells; in this case, only one has to be from the Dark Arts - so if you're only choosing one spell, make sure it's a jinx, hex, or curse!) Describe them and tell me why you would want them to be your signature spells.
- Do you agree with my theory for the cause of priori incantatem/why it creates shadows? If so, why? If not, what is your theory?
- Did you expect the killing curse to be painful or not? Why do you think it isn't?
- Do you think the Cruciatus curse feels the same for everyone, or different? Why? If you believe it feels different, what do you think causes the difference? (E.g., is it the caster? The victim? The combination? Or each individual spell?)
Option 2) Get Creative!
Choose ONE of the options below and draw a picture/create a graphic/make any other kind of artistic representation of the subject. Points will be given for EFFORT and CREATIVITY - don't fret about the quality!
- Create an image of the casting or effects of any of the spells mentioned in the lesson. Please be sure to tell me WHICH spell you are illustrating!
- Create a poster for the Ministry of Magic to remind people about the Unforgivable Curses and how they are illegal.
